Our project in Freudenstadt – Hotel Fritz Lauterbad. The dark colour of the wood treated with the Shou-Sugi-Ban technique underlines the strictness of the symmetrical geometry of the building, while the striking relief and the mother-of-pearl-like light give it a unique softness. This combination strikes a balance between the classic and contemporary architectural styles. Burning the outer layer of wood creates a resistant material that is fireproof and impervious to insects. The facade does not have to be treated chemically with dyes or flame retardants.
